Window Types and How to Tell the Difference

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that goes “the eyes are the windows to the soul.” Well the opposite applies for homes! Windows are the eyes of your home, and a couple of well-placed windows can change the way your house looks both inside and out and create completely different ambients. Let’s take a look at a couple window types recommended by our friends in Window Replacement Boston MA so you new homeowners know how to pick the right ones for your home.

First off, we’ve got the single hung window. These ones open vertically, using the lower window panel to slide up and down with up being open and down being closed. When the window is open, the upper window panel is covered by the lower one. These are generally the most afforable window option and range from anywhere between $170 to $360 for each window.

Double hung windows are very similar, only with these windows you can use both the upper and lower panels to open the window. This makes it a lot easier to clean your windows as you can easily move each one respectively to reach all the little nooks and crannies.

Besides these two, you’ve got arched windows, awning windows, bay windows, bow windows and much more! I know it might seem a little daunting when you’re just learning about them, but figuring out which windows will suit your home best is very worth it!

My Favorite Dorchester Restaurants

If you’ve been out in Dorchester before you probably noticed that there’s a wide range of restaurants and places to eat out and it can be difficult choosing. I’m going to mention a couple of the places I like to eat at the most and maybe you’ll find something you like here too.

The Blarney Stone is always my number one choice, not just as a restaurant but as a pub. They’re the first place to serve Guinness on draft, and I thought that was a pretty cool fact. Their menu is quite diverse, ranging from burgers and chicken tenders to lettuce wraps and jasmine rice bowls with lots of veggies and curry-flavored tofu.

If you’re on the hunt for pizza places in Dorchester, check out Five Star Pizza and Grill. You’ll find delicious pizzas, crisp caesar salads, and huge subs that are all available for takeaway as well.

Cafe Polonia is a cute Polish Triangle restaurant where you can find ethnic Polish food like pierogi, Polish blood sausage called kiszka, and a lot more cool exotic dishes.

I don’t know about you, but I love a good Cape Verdean dish from time to time, and Cesaria Restaurante is the best place to find one. The staff is really friendly, the service is great, and the food is to die for. It’s a great place to get acquainted with their unique culture through their dishes and enjoy the ambiance of their upscale restaurant.

These are just my favorite places that I always like to visit when I get a chance to go eat out in Dorchester. Give them a try and let me know what you think!

Places I Like to Eat in Dorchester

Dorchester has a great array of restaurants and places you can eat out or order food from. Of all the Boston suburbs, I like going out to eat in Dorchester the most. Here I’ll list just a couple of my favorite places to eat at:

Ashmont Grill

This place has got two adorable patios and a cute garden you can sit in during the warmer months. I hear that the owner/chef of this restaurant has stacked up a lot of experience before he opened this place, and it definitely shows. Their signature “trainwreck fries” are to die for.

Banh Mi Ba Le

These guys bake their own delicious baguettes and pair it with salty cold cuts, tender beef or pork pate. They’re really affordable too, with their sandwiches pretty much never running you more than five dollars, leaving you enough to get a tasty avocado shake or bubble tea on the side.

Five Star Pizza and Grill

There’s a reason they’ve got “five stars”in their name. These guys make the best pizza Dorchester has to offer and a speedy delivery that brings you your pizza fresh and hot if you’re looking to order in. You can also get excellent caesar salads and subs from these guys.

There’s a whole lot more, but these are my personal top three places. Check ‘em out!

Dorchester’s Best Restaurants

Visiting Dorchester sometime soon? Well if you are, I bet you’ll be looking for a few suggestions for places you can eat out. I’ve spent a lot of time in Dorchester myself and through my time there I’ve located a couple of my favorite restaurants which I’ll list for you here.

If you’re looking for tasty comfort food, then you’ll want to go to 224 Boston Street. Chimichurri spiced chicken wings done in the oven, mushroom and garlic gravy meatloaf, quinoa salad with roasted carrots and apple shavings are just a few of the tasty meals you’ll be able to find here. They keep their menu fresh and switch things up pretty often, so you’ll be in for a pleasant surprise whenever you show up to eat.

When it comes to Asian cuisine, my personal favorite place is Anh Hong. Delicious Vietnamese specialities like pho, bun, ca kho to and more are just a few of the dishes you can find here.

If you’re looking to order in, you should try “Five Star Pizza and Grill” where you’ll find some of the quickest pizza delivery Dorchester has to offer. Their pizza is made in a brick oven and is very delicious.

For a place with a Mediterranean twist, you might want to check out “The Potting Shed.” They’ve got a weekly tapas evening which you can catch if you go there on Fridays.

And if you want to get your drink on? I’ve got to say that the “Dorchester Brewing Company” is my favorite. You can find their own brewed beer, ranging from roasty porters to New England IPAs and fruit sours and more. They’ve also got a kitchen where you can get awesome breakfast food, empanadas, among many other tasty meals.

So check these places out and enjoy your stay in Dorchester!
